Retirement day for The Alchemy
Alchemy’s official retirement from being ridden. 27th September 2007 (also the 4th anniversary of my accident – i’ve come a long way!)
We’ll still lead him out for walks (and, knowing Al, bucks and prances) and all that, but he can no longer safely (and comfortably) support a rider’s weight (even skinny little Jamie)
Jamie was very upset – Al was such a fun horse to ride. The bucking Bronco. But we’ve had our fun now, and he is more than entitled to this last step in his retirement. He is a venerable old man at 26, with the wobbly knees as proof of his very long and hard career as race horse and show jumper at the top.
We love you Alchemy – we’re not going to leave you to gather dust, old man, we promise.

A calendar is born – thanks to M
I used Lulu this time, to make it - instead of fd’s flickr toys (which still rock, i just needed something more flexible when it came to image cropping, etc)
I really hope she likes it, and even more importantly, I hope A likes it (as it’s for her, ultimately)
I have also made a lulu photo book (you can see it here http://www.lulu.com/content/1192654 ) and i’ve had some nice comments on it so far…
Now to see if anyone buys one! (besides my coco-sister!)
I have also been approached by a media company, who want to use some of my images for a “small project” for National Geographic.
yes. you read that right. National Bloomin’ Geographic.
I tried not to squeal in excitement. I replied to their email immediately and said YES YES YES OF COURSE!!! They even want to pay me!
Haven’t heard anything though… it’s been 2 days… i’m trying to stay positive about it… but also trying not to get my hopes up (As usual)
I wore my yellow shirt today (felt thin enough to brave it) and i got so many compliments that i was rather glad i did… really made me feel good (for once)
Rode Ex this late afternoon, it was awesome… tried him in a happy mouth pelham
first time i’ve ever used one, and i think it was the first time he’s ever been in one!
but we persevered! and he was so good… i think he liked the apple taste of the bit once he got used to it
and i had BRAKES! i also had to learn (very quickly) how to ride with double reins (i didn’t buy a rein connector, silly me) – luckily, i have taken so many photos of dressage riders, using double bridles, that i knew how to work the reins
i was rather proud of myself (as was C! hehe she said “wow you’ve come such a long way, A” and she’s right!)
so all these plates in the air for me… and i feel good.
as W said when she heard the news about NatGeo… “this is where it all turns good… this is That Moment, you know that, right?”
I really hope so… this is the beginning of Good Things… i can just feel it…
and i’m not scared!
